An Ode to My Mom on Mother’s Day and Cinnamon Swirl Bread

Dear Mom:

Since I can’t be with you this Mother’s Day,
I thought I would send this little poem your way.
Rachel, Sam and I do not thank you enough,
So it is time to make way for some of the mushy stuff.

Oatmeal, cream of wheat or cinnamon toast before school,
Perfectly packed lunches over which many kids would drool,
Then veal marsala, chicken piccata or spaghetti for dinner,
Whatever you made we knew it would always be a winner.

Whenever we came home, you’d ask us how our days were,
If we had any woes, no doubt you would offer a cure.
You wrote us letters every day when we were at camp,
Even when we lost our tennis matches you made us feel like a champ.

In New York I would call you when I felt all alone,
We would talk for hours and hours on the phone,
I would complain to you about each crappy date,
Finally I met the right one, it had to be fate.

You planned our wedding, no details spared.
It was so perfect only because of how much you cared.
Mom, thank you for always being there.
Now, here’s some delicious bread in honor of you that I wish we could share ๐Ÿ™‚

This delicious Cinnamon Swirl Bread recipe is from Oh Sweet Basil ~ you can find the recipe here. When I saw this bread, it reminded me of the cinnamon toast that we used to make growing up and I knew I had to give it a try. If you haven’t checked out this fabulous site, you definitely should. This bread is super fluffy, delicious and perfectly, but not too, sweet. The only change I made was using granulated sugar instead of brown sugar for the filling. Thank you Carrian for the delicious recipe! Happy Mother’s Day everyone!
