What is it about Paris that is so romantic? I was there once in college when I studied abroad and I remember feeling that I couldn’t wait to come back one day hopefully with the love of my life. It is a city to be seen with someone that you are in love with, I think. It is therefore very fitting that some of the most romantic and talented designers show their collections in Paris. Scrolling through the pictures of the shows almost takes you to that magical city, where love for art, beauty, food, wine and all things glamour surrounds you.
I really enjoy going through the fashion shows ~ especially because the American media sometimes doesn’t really cover the fashion shows in Europe. You may see a few pictures from the Chanel show, but that might be it. In general, the media just wants to let you know which celebrities are there. Even though these shows are a season ahead (for this coming fall) and you wouldn’t necessarily wear some of the things straight off the runway, you can get a lot of cool ideas for your own wardrobe. This also includes what direction hair, nail and accessories trends are going too. No need to wait for that big fat Vogue to come in September.
The Fall 2014 Ready-To-Wear collections were shown in Paris February 25 through March 5. Here are some of my favorites from these gorgeous collections.
Very dramatic, feminine and lovely jackets from Chloe ~ I could use one of these now!
At Christian Dior, there was a lot of volume and play with proportions ~ not sure how much of it could be worn in “real life”, but it was pretty cool visually. Check out how big the scarf is compared to the rest of the outfit. And the white dress is just classic.
At Andrew Gn, who I am not super familiar with, this red dress and a black jacket were particularly fierce. I love the length on the black coat and the belt. Julianna Marguiles wore one of this designer’s gowns to the Golden Globes, so it is kind of on my radar now.
Dries Van Noten is definitely on the funkier side, but super cool. There were lots of orangey florals, which seems very fall appropriate. Two of my favorites are this black sweater and this orange sweater paired with a shimmery skirt, which is very unexpected. How fun would it be to walk into a cocktail party donning this?
Celine had some gorgeous tailored jackets, which was a nice contrast to the volume that a lot of the other designers were showing. Are you digging the full length animal print? Or maybe just the black?
Saint Laurent ~ The whole collection felt very Twiggyesque to me, but I loved it. I’m not sure where I would wear most of it, but it was awesome. Maybe it was just fun for the sake of being fun, with a side of 60s/rocker chic. You may get a few giggles if you walked around Atlanta in the hat and cape combo, but in the “couture” setting, it works.
Valentino had the perfect little red dress, with sleeves which is awesome when it is chilly. I love the colors in the printed dress ~ very different and fun.
I hope you enjoyed some of my Paris Fashion Week Favorites. Happy Almost Friday!!
