The Bachelor Viewing Party ~ Rose and Heart Sugar Cookies

The Bachelor Sugar Cookies

Have you been watching The Bachelor this season?  I’m a little late to the party, but it seems like all of my friends (even guys!) are into it this time around. One of my friends organized a get-together last night to watch an episode and it was so fun to watch it with the ladies. Since I’m thinking that you might be having a get-together or two with some of your friends to watch, I thought you might enjoy these easy and fun Bachelor-themed sugar cookies.

The most awesome thing about these cookies is that they require no fancy equipment ~ just some cookie cutters and sprinkles 🙂 Maybe you have some leftover heart cutouts or red sprinkles from Valentine’s Day?  If so, this is the perfect use for them!  If not, you’ll likely be able to pick these up in the “sale” aisle at your local grocery store since they are trying to clear out the V-Day stuff.  The powdered sugar icing is so easy and it dries very well ~ making these cookies easy to stack and transport – which is always a plus.

Here’s the Basic Sugar Cookie Recipe from Better Home and Gardens New Cookbook:

What You’ll Need:

2/3 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
1 tbsp milk (I used whole milk)
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour

What You’ll Do:

In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat butter on medium to high speed for 30 seconds or until it starts to get fluffy. Add sugar, baking powder and salt. Beat until combined, scraping the sides of the bowl occasionally. Beat in egg, milk and vanilla. Beat in flour 1/2 cup at a time. Divide dough in half and chill for at least an hour. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough, one half at a time, until about 1/8 inch thick. Using a cooker cutter, cut dough into desired shapes. If you are using a shape that might be a little flimsy (such as the flower), you might want to roll out the dough slightly thicker. Bake at 375 degrees for 7-8 minutes or until the edges begin to brown slightly. Let cookies cool completely before going to the next step ~ powdered sugar icing!

For the Powdered Sugar Icing (also from BHG’s New Cookbook)

What You’ll Need:

1 cup powdered sugar
1/4 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp milk (at least, plus a few more teaspoons to mix in)

What You’ll Do:

Combine powdered sugar, vanilla and one tablespoon of milk. Begin to stir and add in one teaspoon at a time of milk until the icing reaches a smooth consistency ideal for drizzling over the cookies. Decorate with sprinkles if desired! Allow icing to harden before storing in an air-tight container.
