Bridal Fashion Week Spring 2014

I am one of those girls that fantasized about my wedding dress when I was little. In high school, my best friend and I would go to Barnes and Noble and peek through the bridal magazines, picking out our favorites and dreaming of what we would look like on our big day.

While I have already picked out my wedding dress and had my big day, I will forever love looking at all of the beautiful dresses out there. A wedding is about love, dreams and even fantasies, and wedding dresses can sometimes set the tone for the decor, dress and general mood of the entire celebration.

Did you know that there is also a fashion week for bridal gowns? Bridal Fashion Week took place in New York over the last few days. Whether you are in the market for a wedding dress or you just love looking at pretty things, here are some highlights that I hope you enjoy.

Jenny Packham

Jenny Packham’s dresses remind me of Downton Abbey.  Getting dressed during that time period was a whole different ball game, with gloves, hair pieces and yikes….probably even corsets.  Given the ornate and glamorous details, it is no surprise that British post-World War 1 era style has become trendy. Who doesn’t love the clothes on that show?

Oscar de la Renta

Who wouldn’t love to wear an Oscar de la Renta wedding gown? This spring, there are drops of light blue and pink mixed in with elegant lace, rounding out a timeless collection.

Monique Lhullier

There was a lot of variety in this splendid Monique Lhullier collection, but I was drawn to the fuller skirts and the simpler, feminine lines.

Jim Hjelm
If you want to go the sexy route, these gowns from Jim Hjelm are spectacularly detailed and elegant but definitely a little more revealing.

Reem Acra

I love Reem Acra’s dresses. Unfortunately, they were not being sold in Atlanta when I was shopping for a dress. They are so beautifully tailored to the body, they almost look like they were painted on.
